Gelt (Chocolate Coins)

Gelt are a Hanukkah staple. Delicious to eat and a must for a game of Dreidel. So easy to make at home. It’s a fun project so get the whole family involved in making and wrapping the chocolate.

Ingredients

  • bag of chocolate chips or chunked chocolate
  • double boiler
  • whisk
  • squeeze bottle
  • funnel
  • coin mold
  • gold & silver wrappers

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate in double boiler.
  2. Let cool slightly than pour in a squeeze bottle using a funnel to guide the chocolate into the bottle.
  3. Squeeze chocolate into the coin molds and put molds in freezer for 30 minutes minimum.
  4. Wrap coins in wrappers and refrigerate until Hanukkah.

For those looking to simplify while still enjoying something sweet, here is recipe for delicious do-it-yourself gelt. Repeat this process until all chocolate is used up. If chocolate hardens during the process, add a tiny drizzle more oil, and heat over low heat until it is malleable again.
